It appears that there are a lot of people around the world who are tired of losing their things. That, or they want to be spies. The Smart Tracker 2 – a small GPS tag that can help you keep track of your belongings, people, or pets – has blasted past its crowdfunding goal of $30,000 on Indiegogo.

In less than 3 weeks, the device has raised over $180,000 and has reportedly become quite the hit on social media, as Sky News reports that the device has already received over 3,226 tweets just this past week alone.

The small square device is 45 millimeters square and has the thickness of an average floor tile. It can be placed inside small bags, luggage or clipped to pet collars with the use of a buckle — not to mention it can be magnetically attached to cars.

In addition to being small, easy to hide and waterproof, its creators say it comes with additional perks, including a rechargeable battery, a free lifetime of online tracking, and the ability to record tracking history for up to three years.

According to the product’s critics, it is not the tracking capabilities that make it unique among its competitors. Instead, it’s the fact that it can also be used to listen in on conversations via a smartphone that sets it apart from similar devices.

“Leave your bag at the table while you nip to the toilet in a restaurant, for example, and you’ll be able to hear what your friends say about you when you’re not there,”

Wrote Joe Svetlik of Trusted Reviews, adding that he is skeptical about its effectiveness until he actually gives the device a trial run.

Leave your bag at the table while you nip to the toilet in a restaurant, for example, and you’ll be able to hear what your friends say about you when you’re not there While Svetlik and other buyers will have to wait until October for their Smart Tracker 2 tags to be delivered, those interested can continue to place their orders. The new GPS trackers presently sell for $99 a pop — a price which includes one Smart Tracker 2, an international prepaid SIM, access to the free tracking platform, a magnetic cover, a belt gusset plate, the required software, a user manual and an AC adapter.
